The Issues
1. Revitalization of older areas
We need to continue to work with the Merchants on our historic Square
to add value and enhance the atmosphere to bring more daily
life. Let’s increase the green space in this area
but find ways to help and encourage local merchants to attract new
customers. Let’s change our zoning rules so
investors can turn those empty neglected two and three story areas into
livable lofts. Let’s make downtown a
desirable place to live and shop.
I want to encourage and support new growth such as dining, theaters,
and shopping. I support the revitalization of the
Farmer’s Market. “I want to see Lebanon
shine.”
2. Education
People want to move into an area where they can raise their children
and send them to highly rated public schools. Our ten
district schools are providing an invaluable service with great
teachers, support staff, and facilities. But our high school
facility is found severally lacking. We are losing industry
and growth due to this.
It’s time the County and City work together and provide this
asset for our community and our children. Let’s get
this project moving or we will continue to lose our growth and tax
income to surrounding cities.
3. Jobs
Today can be a challenge to find and maintain a good job. The
rising costs of living is eroding our ability to maintain the
same level quality of life.
One qualification of Mayor of the city of Lebanon, in the coming years,
will be his ability to be the salesman for our town. He will
have to be able to generate and develop new leads for business
partners. He must be able to convey a sense of honesty,
integrity, cooperation, and a sense of pride in Lebanon. We need to
work to maintain the existing businesses and find ways to help them
expand their investment in our community.
Once this is done the citizens, the city council members, engineers and
planning department must all be offering a supportive hand to make
these mergers progress. Their treatment and experience will
translate into new future business partners. Cooperative leadership
will inspire pride in Lebanon as the Right Place to grow their business
and families.
4. City Employees
I would like to commend all the city departments for their leadership
and their employee’s hard work for
Lebanon. As Mayor I will be a strong advocate for
each employee. I believe in your ability to do your job in an
honest and effective manner. I believe in your ability to
show respect to the citizens that you serve.
All employee personnel issues will be handled in a respectful and
business-like manner. I will lobby to provide for you with
the tools needed for you to perform your jobs and achieve your goals.
Everyone has the right to enjoy their place of employment; just as all
employees have the right to seek advancement in new careers.
5. Plan for continuous and harmonious
growth
Lebanon has that “small town charm” which is
oriented to children and families. We can protect our
identity and maintain our quality of life through proper planning and
cooperation.
I share the concerns of most citizens of maintaining the integrity of
our neighborhoods. Our growth plan must protect existing
neighborhoods. I believe in a harmonious transition from one
older development to the next newer one. Planning not only
involves the final look of the building, the landscape and signage.
Along with this goes the preparation for the future to provide the
infrastructure to handle the growth. Planning for water,
sewer, gas services, and roadways are projects which must be constantly
reviewed. Also, we must be aware of the responsibilities to
pay for the improvements.
We must be open to new ideas and technologies. The old ways
may not be the best way in the future.
6. Services
The City of Lebanon has a core of great employees with excellent skills
that provide the services to meet the needs of our citizens.
7. Recreation
The City of Lebanon has made a major investment in providing
recreational facilities. The providing of facilities to all
our citizens, young and old is essential in the improvement of our well
being and health. This investment creates a sense of
happiness and belonging. This investment allows people of all
ages to experience a better quality of life.
Our commitment to continually promote and expand these must continue to
accommodate our growing city. Investments in new walking
trails, pet friendly parks, and people parks, ball fields and skating
parks while assessing and expansion of existing facilities must be in
our plans for the future. These plans will include the older
and new areas of town.
